Green tea extract inhibits liver fibrosis

(-)-Epigallocatechin gallate prevents carbon tetrachloride-induced rat hepatic fibrosis by inhibiting the expression of the PDGFRbeta and IGF-1R.

This study evaluated the effects of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG, a compound found in green tea) on liver fibrosis, which is the development of scar tissue in the liver in response to injury or disease. The experiments were performed with rats. The results showed that EGCG can be useful in the prevention and treatment of liver fibrosis. More details can be found in the study.
