Green tea extract is effective against liver fibrosis

Green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin-3-gallate inhibits oxidative damage and preventive effects on carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatic fibrosis.

This study examined the effects of the green tea extract epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) on liver fibrosis (development of scar tissue in the liver). The experiments were performed using cells and rats. The results demonstrated that the administration of EGCG can be useful in the treatment and prevention of liver fibrosis. Further details can be found in the study.
