Cancer is the second largest epidemic in the industrialized world and, in most cases, it is still considered a ‘death verdict’. The most common approaches of conventional medicine in response to this epidemic – chemotherapy and radiation – have not been able to control it. To the contrary, both of these procedures damage cancer cells and healthy cells alike and, by that very fact, frequently cause new cancers in patients.
These sobering facts explain why, in many countries, the cancer epidemic continues to take the lives of one out of four people – a staggering 7.5 million patients worldwide each year.
Another important fact that contributes to the continuation of this epidemic is the escalating use of pharmaceutical drugs. Due to their synthetic nature, most of these chemical drugs can exert toxic effects on the cells of our body. According to US governmental records, a staggering 42% of the pharmaceutical drugs that are being prescribed and taken by millions of patients are potentially carcinogenic, i.e. they can cause cancer.
It is only understandable that more and more patients do not accept this dreadful perspective and, early on after their diagnosis, look for alternatives. Unfortunately, alternative cancer approaches include many methods that are not scientifically proven and may just replace the false promise of a chemotherapy cure with yet another illusion.
The ‘cancer’ section of this online library is different. While these web pages do not promise a cure to every cancer patient visiting them, they provide scientifically documented approaches to cancer based on natural, non-toxic means.
Over the past two decades an explosion of natural health research has taken place, particularly in the area of vitamins and other micronutrients in the fight against cancer. In this context a completely new understanding of the development of cancer has been established that can be summarized as follows:
Many factors can cause cancer. Among them are smoking, polluted air, water and other environmental factors, as well as pesticide-treated food and, of course, chemical prescription drugs.
Once the genetic information (DNA) of a cell is damaged and unable to be repaired, it may lead to the re-programming of this DNA, resulting in constant replication of the cell. Thus, by definition, cancer cells are cells that have become immortal and replicate uncontrollably.
Cancer can develop in almost any organ of the body. But irrespective of the organ they originate in, all cancer cells spread via the same mechanism: they produce collagen-digesting enzymes that are able to digest the surrounding connective tissue. These enzymes are called collagenases. Their most frequently studied subgroup are so-called metalloproteinases (MMPs).
The more of these enzymes a cancer cell produces, the more aggressively it digests the surrounding connective tissue; the faster it migrates through the body; the quicker it forms metastases in other parts of the body; the more malign is the cancer; and the shorter the lifespan is of the cancer patient.
Collagen digesting enzymes are also used by our body under normal conditions, e.g. during ovulation, pregnancy, and the rebuilding of the breast in preparation for lactation etc. However, these processes are tightly controlled and the degrading and rebuilding of tissue is precisely regulated. Cancer cells abuse precisely this same mechanism, but in an uncontrolled manner. Thus, the tissue destruction does not stop and the body of a cancer patient is literally ‘eaten up from within’.
This website documents research and clinical studies showing that certain vitamins and other micronutrients are capable of decreasing, or completely blocking, essentially every mechanism of cancer development, including DNA damage and the multiplication, spread, and metastasis of cancer cells. Moreover, certain micronutrients are able to reprogram the damaged DNA and induce the ‘suicide’ of cancer cells, a process known as apoptosis.
