Summary

Alzheimer’s disease is the leading cause of dementia and the most common neurodegenerative disease in the elderly. This review analyzed epidemiological, dietary intervention and supplementation studies on Alzheimer’s disease. According to the review, the studies supported the role of omega-3 fatty acids in the prevention or delay of mental decline (reduction of brain function) in Alzheimer´s disease.
