Summary

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of resveratrol in type 2 diabetic patients. Resveratrol is a plant polyphenol that has been found to have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health. 19 diabetes patients were randomly assigned into two groups: a resveratrol group receiving 5 mg resveratrol twice daily and a control group receiving a placebo. The authors of the study found that resveratrol improves insulin sensitivity, i.e. it enabled the cells to use insulin more effectively, thereby helping to prevent the development of diabetes. The positive effect of resveratrol was attributed to its ability to decrease oxidative stress. Further details can be found in the study.
