Anti-inflammatory effect of vitamin D on gingivitis: a dose response randomised controlled trial.
This study assessed the anti-inflammatory effect of vitamin D on gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) at various doses. Over a period of 3 months, vitamin D supplementation was given in doses of either 2000 IU, 1000 IU and 500 IU to one of three study groups (group A, B and C). An additional group (group D) received a placebo. The results showed that there was a significant anti-inflammatory effect in group A after one month itself, in group B at two months and in group C at the 3rd month after oral vitamin D supplementation. Further details can be found in the study.
