Summary

This Iranian trial was executed to investigate the effects of alpha-lipoic acid supplementation on oxidative stress in women with gestational diabetes. 60 women with gestational diabetes at 24 to 28 weeks of pregnancy were selected and divided into a supplementation group (30 women), receiving 300 mg/day of alpha-lipoic acid for 8 weeks, and a placebo group (30 women). Among others, fasting blood sugar levels and oxidative stress indicators were measured in blood. After the intervention period, the results showed significantly improved values of fasting blood sugar levels and some parameters related to oxidative stress levels. According to this study, alpha-lipoic acid supplementation at a dosage of 300 mg/day improved fasting blood sugar levels and oxidative stress parameters in women with gestational diabetes. More details can be found in the study.
