Summary

According to this study conducted by the University of Wuhan (China), coenzyme Q10 decreases oxidative stress, which supports the development of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. Patients were divided into two groups. The test group received an additional coenzyme Q10 supplement. Simultaneously, patients in the control group only received common drugs. Several measurements were performed before the supplementation period, after 6 months, and after 12 months. 102 patients, aged 45 to 82 years, were examined. The study results showed a significant reduction of oxidative stress in the test group compared to patients in the control group, which showed no significant difference after 6 and 12 months. This study documented that coenzyme Q10 supplementation in patients with heart failure may attenuate the incidence of atrial fibrillation. Further details can be found in the study.
