Summary

This study, executed by an Iranian and a Croatian university, aimed to analyze the effects of magnesium and zinc supplements on glucose levels, oxidative stress, and inflammation in patients with coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes. In this study, 60 patients were divided into either a group receiving a placebo or a group receiving a supplement containing magnesium (250 mg) and zinc (150 mg) for 12 weeks. Supplementation of magnesium and zinc significantly decreased fasting glucose levels and improved HDL-cholesterol levels compared to patients in the placebo group. Additionally, reduced inflammation parameters and improved oxidative stress levels were observed in the supplementation group. These results suggest that magnesium and zinc co-supplementation can be beneficial for these patients. More details can be found in the study.
