Summary

This review by the Chinese University of Hong Kong evaluated the efficacy of various dietary supplements on gestational diabetes risk. 53 trials were reviewed with a total of 9443 participants. The researchers’ analysis found that vitamin D and inositol supplementation was particularly successful in reducing the risk of gestational diabetes. Additionally, inositol, probiotics, and vitamin D showed significant beneficial effects on indicators related to the regulation of glucose (sugar) levels, lipid parameters, inflammation, and oxidative stress levels. In conclusion, this review showed that dietary supplementation is helpful in the prevention and management of gestational diabetes. Additionally, nutritional supplements were found as a valuable means in the prevention of gestational diabetes and the management of risk factors related to heart and metabolic disorders.
