Summary

This trial evaluated the effect of vitamin C and E supplementation in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The study was performed with 170 patients divided into a supplementation group and a placebo group. Additionally, the supplementation group was divided into three subgroups, consuming either vitamin C, vitamin E, or a combination of vitamin C and E. The Iranian researchers evaluated parameters such as fasting blood glucose levels, long-term glucose levels (HbA1c), and antioxidant substances at the start of the study and after the supplementation period of three months. The results showed significant differences in blood pressure in all supplementation groups after three months of supplementation compared with measurements at the start. Furthermore, the use of supplements (all three groups) showed significant differences in concentrations of fasting blood sugar levels and long-term glucose levels and significantly increased levels of antioxidant substances. However, no significant differences were observed in the placebo group. More details can be found in the study.
