Summary
Reperfusion is a treatment which aims to restore the blood flow to body´s tissues which are blood flow deficient, but it can damage organs and tissues by increasing oxidative stress (imbalance between the production of free radicals and the ability of the body to counteract their harmful effects).
The present study investigated the effect of vitamin C supplementation on oxidative stress in patients with heart attacks before and after reperfusion.
It was found that vitamin C supplementation restored parameters back to normal or near normal levels.
Further details can be found in the study.
