Summary

Diets and lifestyles in developed countries promote deficiencies of micronutrients, particularly vitamin C and D, and are associated with diabetes, for instance. This Australian review evaluated results from studies examining the potential of vitamin C and D in reversing defects in glucose regulation and preventing type 2 diabetes. Several studies suggest an association between vitamin C deficiency and diabetes. Additionally, an association between vitamin D and insulin resistance (a reduced ability of cells to respond to insulin and take up glucose) has been described. Please see the review for more details.
