Summary

The process of Alzheimer’s disease begins years before disease onset. Scientists have therefore stressed the importance to search for strategies that allow the early prevention of this disease. This study evaluated whether omega-3 fatty acids are able to protect memory functions in healthy older adults. In course of the study, 44 healthy individuals aged 50-75 years received either omega-3 fatty acids or a placebo for 26 weeks. At the end of the study period, it was found that omega-3 fatty acids exerted positive effects on memory functions, as indicated by memory tests. Further details can be found in the study.
