Summary

This Iranian study aimed to investigate the beneficial effect of grape seed extract and vitamin C in oxidative stress and tissue damage induced during coronary artery bypass surgery. Therefore, 87 patients undergoing coronary bypass surgery were assigned to three groups of each 29 patients. The first group was a control group without treatment; the second group received the grape seed extract 24 hours before the operation, 100 mg every 6 hours, orally; the third group received vitamin C via pump circulation during the surgery. Blood samples were taken to measure and compare different parameters. The results showed that grape seed extract and vitamin C reduce oxidative stress and harmful effects during bypass surgery. For more details, please refer to the study.
