This study examined the ability of green tea catechins (antioxidant natural compounds, GTC) to protect human skin against erythema (reddening of the skin due to inflammatory processes) induced by UV radiation (UVR). 16 healthy people were given low-dose GTC (540 mg) with vitamin C (50 mg) daily for 12 weeks. Subsequently, the participants were exposed to UVR. The researchers discovered that GTC intake contributed to the protection against sunburn inflammation and potentially longer-term skin damage from UVR. Further details can be found in the study.
