Summary

This study, executed by a research department in Tehran, Iran, aimed to determine if micronutrients can improve neuropathy indicators in type 2 diabetes. 75 patients with type 2 diabetes were assigned to one of the following three treatment groups: The first group received a combination of zinc (20 mg), magnesium (250 mg), vitamin C (200 mg), and vitamin E (100 mg); the second group received the supplements from the first group together with vitamin B1 (10 mg), B2 (10 mg), B6 (10 mg), biotin (200 μg), B12 (10 μg) and folic acid (1 mg); the third group received a placebo. The supplements were administered daily for 4 months. A questionnaire measured neuropathy symptoms. After 4 months of supplementation, groups 1 and 2 showed a significant improvement in symptoms. Thus, this study suggests that micronutrient supplementation may ameliorate diabetic neuropathy symptoms. Further details can be found in the study.
