This Chinese review summarizes the effects and working mechanism of L-carnitine in cardiovascular diseases. L-carnitine beneficially affects the energy household of the heart and reduces oxidative stress and inflammation. Additionally, carnitine has been shown to reduce high blood pressure, diabetes, and other conditions considered risk factors for the development of cardiovascular diseases. The favorable effects of L-carnitine were observed in all age groups with heart failure. Specifically, the researchers emphasized the beneficial role of L-carnitine in cardiomyopathy.
