Summary

This study, conducted by the Oregon Health and Science University and the Colorado State University in the USA, aimed to evaluate the effects of the antioxidant lipoic acid on gait and balance in multiple sclerosis patients. The study participants took 1200 mg of oral lipoic acid or a placebo for 2 years. Walking performance, gait and balance were measured every 6 months by mobility and balance tests. Supplementation with lipoic acid was shown to improve walking performance in the participants. Please see the study for more details.
