Summary

This review by researchers from the University of Minneapolis, USA analyzed the results from clinical trials investigating the efficacy of magnesium supplementation for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Low magnesium levels are commonly observed in heart failure, diabetes, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases. They are also a predictor for cardiovascular diseases and related mortality. Thus, treating magnesium deficiency may be an effective way to prevent cardiovascular diseases. Furthermore, magnesium has shown anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in patients with cardiovascular disease. The results of the trials mentioned in the review indicate that magnesium supplementation should be considered as an additional treatment in patients with cardiovascular disease. Please see the review for more details.
