Summary

Magnesium is a micronutrient with several benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties. This study, executed by Iranian and Canadian universities, aimed to evaluate the effects of magnesium supplementation on inflammatory processes and pregnancy outcomes in women diagnosed with gestational diabetes. The trial was conducted with 36 women, 18 to 40 years old, who were allocated to two groups receiving either 250 mg/day of magnesium (18 women) or a placebo (18 women) for six weeks. It was found that magnesium supplementation beneficially affected inflammatory parameters. Therefore, according to the researchers, magnesium supplementation might be recommended to decrease metabolic complications in women with gestational diabetes mellitus. More details can be found in the study.
