Summary

Research shows that oxidative stress and inflammation are important factors in diabetes. This study, executed by universities from Iran and Canada, aimed to determine whether supplements containing magnesium, zinc, calcium, and vitamin D can improve inflammation and oxidative stress in women with gestational diabetes. 60 patients with gestational diabetes were assigned to take the supplements (30 women) or a placebo (30 women) for 6 weeks. Fasting blood samples were collected from participants at the start and after the intervention period of 6 weeks. Supplementation resulted in a significant reduction of inflammation and oxidative stress compared to women in the placebo group. More details can be found in the study.
