Summary

This study evaluated the effect of maternal deficiency of vitamin B12 on growth and bone mass of the offspring. The experiments, performed with an animal model, showed that vitamin B12 deficiency resulted in severe growth retardation and osteoporosis of the offspring. These results identify B12 as an essential vitamin which suggests possible therapies in treating osteoporosis. Further details can be found in the study.
