Summary

Metalloproteinases (MMPs) are substances produced by malignant cells to digest the surrounding tissues, induce metastasis and spread through the body. This study examined the effect of various compounds on MMPs. The experiments, executed with human lung cancer cells, indicated that a nutrient mixture (NM) and the green tea-derived compound epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) inhibited the production of MMPs. The authors concluded that the inhibition of MMPs by means of natural substances is significant in the management of lung cancer. More details can be found in the study.
