Summary
This study aimed to determine the effects of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E on blood glucose (sugar) parameters and lipid concentrations in women with gestational diabetes who did not use oral diabetes medication. The study was carried out with 60 patients. The participants were randomly allocated to a group taking omega-3 fatty acids plus vitamin E (30 patients) or a placebo group (30 patients). Fasting blood samples were taken at the start of the study and after 6 weeks of supplementation. After 6 weeks, fasting glucose levels, insulin concentrations, and several lipid parameters significantly improved in the group receiving the omega-3 and vitamin E supplement. Overall, this study demonstrated that omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E had beneficial effects on glucose parameters and lipid concentrations in the blood of patients with gestational diabetes. More details can be found in the study.
