Summary

According to this Chinese study, omega-3 fatty acid supplements can reduce the risk of thrombosis and pulmonary embolism in the elderly after surgery. During this intervention, 452 elderly patients were divided into two groups receiving either omega-3 fatty acids (1000 mg daily) or a placebo orally 30 days after surgery. After the intervention period, the incidence of thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, and other related complications was compared between the two groups. The results showed that daily supplementation of omega-3 fatty acids significantly decreased the risk of thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after surgery among these elderly patients. More details can be found in the study.
