Summary

Oxidative stress (imbalance between free radicals production and the body´s antioxidant defenses) is one of the major mechanisms involved in the development of diabetic nephropathy. This study examined the link between quercetin (antioxidant), diabetes and diabetic nephropathy (renal dysfunction). Quercetin (10 mg/kg per day) was given for 4 weeks in both control and diabetic rats. The results showed that quercetin significantly attenuated renal dysfunction and oxidative stress. Further details can be found in the study.
