Summary

This trial, executed by a research department in Mexico, aimed to evaluate the effect of vitamin B1 (thiamine) administration on metabolic and inflammation parameters in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who did not use conventional drugs. This trial was carried out in 24 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. 12 subjects received vitamin B1 orally (150 mg) once daily for 1 month. The other 12 patients (control group) were given a placebo for the same period. Before and after the intervention period fasting and long-term glucose (sugar) levels and several lipid and inflammation parameters were estimated. The results showed, among others, a significant decrease in glucose levels after 1 month of vitamin B1 supplementation compared with measurements before the intervention and measurements in the placebo group. More details can be found in the study.
