Summary

This trial, executed by Iranian researchers, aimed to determine the effects of zinc and vitamin E on the metabolism and factors influencing insulin and lipid metabolism in women with gestational diabetes. 54 women aged 18 to 40 years and diagnosed with gestational diabetes participated in this study. The patients were allocated to two intervention groups taking zinc and vitamin E supplements or a placebo (27 women in each group) for 6 weeks. It was shown that participants who received the zinc plus vitamin E supplements had significantly lower insulin levels and improved parameters involved in lipid (fat) metabolism. Overall, zinc and vitamin E supplementation significantly improved insulin metabolism and lipid parameters in women with gestational diabetes. Further details can be found in the study.
