Summary

This study evaluated the effects of zinc supplementation on inflammation in sickle-cell disease (SCD), a disorder of red blood cells. 36 SCD patients were given either 25 mg zinc three times a day for 3 months or a placebo. Zinc-supplemented patients showed a significant decrease in inflammation. These results suggested that zinc supplementation reduced the inflammatory status in SCD patients. More details can be found in the study.
