Summary

This Turkish study aimed to determine the efficacy of prophylactic zinc sulfate treatment in reducing the common cold in children and evaluating the effectiveness of zinc sulfate in reducing the duration and severity of cold symptoms. 200 healthy children received a prophylactic oral zinc sulfate product (100 children) or placebo product (100 children) once daily for 7 months. The results showed that the number of colds was significantly lower in the group that received the zinc sulfate supplement than in the placebo group. Additionally, children in the supplementation group showed a shorter duration of cold symptoms. These results indicate that supplementation with zinc sulfate could be an effective option for preventing and treating the common cold in children. Further details can be found in the study.
