Selenium and zinc protect against oxidative stress

Protective effects of selenium (Se) and zinc (Zn) on cadmium (Cd) toxicity in the liver of the rat: effects on the oxidative stress.

This study evaluated the protective effect of selenium and zinc against oxidative stress (imbalance between free radicals production and the body´s antioxidant defenses). The experiments were performed with rats that received cadmium, zinc and selenium in their drinking water for a period of 35 days. The results showed that selenium and zinc together protected the liver against oxidative stress. More details can be found in the study.
