Vitamin D reduces anemia risk in diabetic patients

Plasma 25-hydroxyvitamin D is independently associated with hemoglobin concentration in male subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus

This study analyzed the relation between vitamin D and anemia (low levels of red blood cells/hemoglobin in the blood) in patients with type 2 diabetes. After hemoglobin and vitamin D concentrations were evaluated in male patients with type 2 diabetes, it was found that vitamin D is associated with higher hemoglobin levels and a reduced risk for anemia. Further details can be found in the study.
