Summary

Several studies have shown that magnesium intake decreases the risk of type 2 diabetes. In this Japanese study, the association between magnesium intake and the incidence of type 2 diabetes was examined. Almost 2000 subjects without diabetes, aged between 40 and 79 years, underwent a glucose test and were followed up for 15.6 years. During the follow-up, 417 participants developed type 2 diabetes. The study results showed that the incidence of type 2 diabetes significantly decreased with increasing magnesium intake. These findings suggest that increased magnesium intake is a significant protector against type 2 diabetes. More details can be found in the study.
