Summary

Conventional drugs used to treat human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) infection can increase the activation of the virus. This review analyzed studies on the effect of the natural amino acid arginine in fighting AIDS/HIV infection. The results showed that arginine did not increase HIV activation. The researchers concluded that these observations, together with the non-toxicity of arginine, suggest a novel approach to treat HIV disease. More details can be found in the study.
