Summary

This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of coenzyme Q10 on sugar (glucose) metabolism and lipid levels in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a disorder involving infrequent, irregular or prolonged menstrual periods. The study was conducted with 60 women diagnosed with PCOS. They were randomly assigned into a group receiving 100 mg of coenzyme Q10 or a placebo for 12 weeks. Parameters related to glucose and lipid metabolism were assessed at the start of the study and 12 weeks later. After 12 weeks, subjects who received coenzyme Q10 supplements had significantly decreased fasting glucose levels compared to participants in the placebo group. Additionally, some lipid parameters also improved in the supplement group. These results indicate that coenzyme Q10 supplementation has beneficial effects on PCOS. More details can be found in the study.
