Summary

This Indian study aimed to examine the effect of oral vitamin C, in combination with an often used conventional drug, on fasting and postmeal blood glucose (sugar) levels as well as long-term blood glucose levels (HbA1c) and vitamin C levels in type 2 diabetes. 70 patients with type 2 diabetes participated in this 12-week study. The patients were divided into a vitamin C and a placebo group of 35 participants each. Decreased vitamin C levels were found in these patients before treatment. These levels reversed significantly after treatment with vitamin C compared to patients in the placebo group. Additionally, patients in the vitamin C group showed a significant improvement in fasting blood glucose and postmeal glucose levels and long-term glucose levels after treatment. This indicates that vitamin C may be used to maintain good blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients. More details can be found in the study.
