Summary

Diabetes is a known risk factor during pregnancy, when the disease can lead to serious complications as a result of metabolic disorder. A randomized, controlled study at Shanghai University Hospital investigated the effect of vitamin D on the progression of gestational diabetes. Supplementation with high-dose vitamin D significantly improved the insulin needs and other parameters of diabetes in the study participants compared with the placebo group.
