Summary

The present study investigated the efficacy of taurine supplementation against atherosclerosis and inflammation in patients with heart failure. Subjects with heart failure and an ejection fraction (percentage of how much blood the left ventricle pumps out with each contraction) of less than 50% participated in the study. Subjects took 500 mg of taurine 3 times daily for 2 weeks; the control group received a placebo. The study found that inflammation and atherosclerosis development decreased as a result of taurine supplementation. Further details can be found in the study.
