Summary

This study evaluated the effects of vitamin A on the gut function of infants of HIV-infected mothers. 238 infants of HIV-infected women who were administered vitamin A during pregnancy were included. When infants were 1, 6 and 14 weeks of age intestinal function tests were performed. The results showed that vitamin A supplementation of HIV-infected pregnant women can prevent gastrointestinal problems in their infants who themselves become infected. Further details can be found in the study.
