Summary

In this randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study the effect of vitamin D and calcium on colon polyps (colorectal adenoma) was examined, i.e. benign neoplasms in the intestinal region. For a 6 month period calcium and/or vitamin D or a placebo were administered to the patients. It turned out that the formation of new tumor tissue can be reduced by calcium and vitamin D. The researchers concluded that calcium and vitamin D are a potential alternative to chemotherapy in colorectal cancer. Further details can be found in the study.
