Summary

This study, executed by Chinese research departments, summarized the association between vitamin D and the risk of diabetic retinopathy (an eye disease caused by high glucose levels). 15 studies were included, involving 17,664 subjects. These studies showed that type 2 diabetes patients with vitamin D deficiency had a significantly increased risk of diabetic retinopathy. Additionally, decreased vitamin D levels were demonstrated in patients with diabetic retinopathy. In conclusion, this study indicates an association between vitamin D deficiency and an increased risk of diabetic retinopathy in type 2 diabetes patients. You can find more details in the study.
